Former Par offers to resign if team fails on Saturday

Everything is not well for Jackie McNamara. The York City manager lost 6-1 to previously winless Guiseley, and now if his Minstermen side fails to get a positive result against Braintree Town, it will be curtains.

A statement released by the club read:

“Following a meeting with the Chairman this morning, and in light of the disappointing performance and result [on Tuesday], York City manager Jackie McNamara has considered his position going forward.”

The former Celtic defender is hoping that this final throw of the dice will be enough to rouse his players out of the slumber and help the team bounce back from relegation in League Two last season.

There has been unrest at Bootham Crescent for some time, and it seems it is all coming off the tracks with the embarrassment over a court fine due an unpaid train ticket.

While sounding despondent on BBC Radio 5 Live it would appear that McNamara – in his third managerial role – knows that the writing is on the wall for short tenure in North Yorkshire.
