Dunfermline Athletic start their 2017/18 season this Saturday at East End Park in the Betfred Cup against League Two, Elgin City.
The Pars begin as the team most likely to finish as runners-up. As a result, there is a strong likelihood they progress as one of the four best (from the eight) second placed clubs.
Peterhead will take on East Fife in the other fixture played on the weekend, with Heart of Midlothian sitting out the opening match day.
Next up sees the Championship outfit cross along the coast to Methil to play their fellow Fifers while Hearts make the journey north to Moray on what – for them – is hopefully a sunny Tuesday evening against the Black and Whites.
Saturday, 22 July will be the date that Peterhead visits Dunfermline since their 1-0 loss 15 months in League One as East Fife goes to Tynecastle for their first official game with the Jam Tarts this century.
The following midweek will bear witness to the Fife’s last scheduled tie of the tournament at home to City as the Jambos head up the A90 once again to the Blue Toon.
A potential group decider with Athletic travelling across the Forth Road Bridge to the Auld Reekie and an all League Two encounter rounds out the round robin format.
